A Life of Science to a Life of Business

October 5, 2021

It was a sunny day on May 4th when I walked across the stage during my college graduation. Receiving my degrees, one in neuroscience and the other in psychology, meant that the next door in my career was finally open. My hopes were high to continue my journey in neuroscience research and academia. Throughout my undergraduate experience, I studied the neurological response to traumatic brain injuries. This is where I fell in love with all the aspects of research; from collecting and test samples all the way to data analysis and write up. My true passion lies within the problem solving of science influencing me to continue in this type of career path. I realized that the driving force of this lied within the data – its collection, analysis, and application to answer a question – rather than the topic.

When the summer came to an end and it was finally time to start looking to begin my career, I aimed my searches toward neuroscience research. While I was applying to mostly science research, I stumbled upon Ideba and their work. I decided to take a step out of my comfort zone and apply for this new opportunity. Within a few days I interviewed and was later hired to begin this new opportunity of growth.

After just three weeks of being a part of the Ideba team, I realized that what I needed out of a career was never what I thought I wanted. Being brought into a company culture built on support, inclusivity, and trust were just a few of my realizations, but the most important being the reason for work. As best said by our fearless leader, David Sly, “we measure the success of our work based on how much we can help society and give back”. Although I am not nearly where I thought I would be 6 months after graduation, which was in the lab working in science, I have found a place where I can continue to grow in an environment that prioritizes the development of each other and of those in need.

Have you taken a similar shift in career? I’d love to hear from you! Send me a note at ChristinaL@idebamarketing.com
