Visiting all 50 States in the USA
Later this month, I’m heading to Bar Harbor, Maine. This trip is going to be particularly memorable, as it’s the one state that I’ve yet to visit. Looking back on the other 49 states visited, here are some personal observations from my travels – a combination of business and leisure trips:
Friendliest state | Alabama | Warm and friendly people! |
Scenic state | Colorado | Can’t beat the Rockies for scenery. Great spot for a QBR too. |
Memorable drive | Oregon | Rte-101 from Washington, through Oregon, and into California. |
Scariest experience | Michigan | Leaving a motel in Detroit at 4:00 a.m., with gunshots ringing out close by. |
Most random visit | Wyoming | Drove to Cheyenne from SLC on New Year’s Day, 2001 for something to do! |
Longest traffic light | Utah | Could have cooked and eaten breakfast while waiting for the light! |
Memorable National Park | North Dakota | Watching bison fight at dawn in Theodore National Park was crazy. |
Most cosmopolitan | New York | Love the Finger Lakes, but NYC is a special place to live. Let’s go Rangers! |
Memorable daybreak | Virginia | Sunrise through the mist in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a lifetime memory. |
Best music scene | Tennessee | Nashville takes some beating, and a great hockey arena too. |
Surprising state | Idaho | Pine trees and wonderful, clean mountain air. |
Worst airport | Washington | Long security lines at SeaTac for many years. Philly is a close second! |
Best fish and chips | Alaska | Halibut was so fresh, you could taste the ocean. |
