Uganda 2022 – Getting Back in the Saddle
Having supported Mpondwe Lhubiriha Secondary School for the past six years with capital projects, supplies and scholarships, the Ideba team and friends were looking forward to a large construction project in Summer, 2020 – building dormitories for 120 students. Having poured nearly 600 hours into planning the trip for 40 people from the US, Canada and Aruba, we were bitterly disappointed when COVID-19 struck, and we had to cancel the trip.
It has taken almost a year to recover from the disappointment, but at the end of the day life goes on, and we’re focused now on new priorities at the school. The original dormitories planned were ultimately redesigned and smaller versions built by the Obemezi Construction Company, a business staffed by graduates from the school. And we now have new projects planned for 2022 – building and stocking a library, building French drains to help improve irrigation during rainy season, and painting classroom exteriors.
And I am pleased to announce that our Global Education Ambassador in 2022 will be Sr. Research Analyst, Jocelyn Van der Geest – who will be leading the painting project, and capturing highlights from the entire trip to share on social media.
Follow progress on trip planning over the weeks and months ahead. And THANK YOU to all of our wonderful clients, who ultimately help support this initiative. We couldn’t do it without you.
