The Holiday Hustle

The end of each year is always chaos. Between work deadlines, holiday shopping, trip planning, hosting family, and mapping out the new year, it can feel daunting, and it’s easy to lose sight of your well-being. I’m stressed out just writing this. So, how can we stay uplifted and productive, while still delivering quality work and finding joy during the holiday season? I’ve got some tips:

  1. Carve out time for yourself and stay active
Whether it’s yoga, meditation, or hitting the gym, prioritize activities that get you out of your head and into your body to help you feel centered. I, personally, aim for 2-3 yoga classes per week; it’s my go-to for maintaining balance. Find an activity you enjoy (it could be something as simple as going for walks in your neighborhood or even dancing around at home) and stick to it. The key is consistency; making time for yourself is not just a luxury, it’s a necessity.
  2. Tap Into Your Creative Side
Not a big fitness person? No worries! Take the time to explore creative activities that make you happy. Plan a fun night out with friends, cook a meal you saved on social media, or dive into an arts-and-crafts project. Personally, I love creating collages when I need a mental break. Even binge-watching your favorite shows or movies counts as self-care, so long as it helps you recharge. (Side note if you’re looking for a holiday-themed TV show to watch: I recently watched Dash & Lily on Netflix, and although it’s probably meant for a younger audience, I really enjoyed how light-hearted and unserious it was).
  3. Write It Down
EOY responsibilities can feel overwhelming when everything is floating around in your head. Writing things down or creating a to-do list can help you organize, prioritize, and feel more in control. Plus, checking tasks off your list is one of the most satisfying feelings ever.
  4. Pause and Breathe
It sounds simple, but deep, intentional breathing can work wonders for your stress levels. If you find yourself spiraling about deadlines or last-minute holiday prep, take a few moments to breathe deeply. It’s a small act that has a big impact on calming your nervous system and resetting your focus.
  5. Maintain Perspective
Try to remember that the holiday season feels crazy for almost everyone. Chances are, your colleagues, clients, friends, and family are feeling the same pressure. This shared experience can be oddly comforting. Most people are more understanding and flexible during this time of year than you might realize. So, give yourself grace, and don’t hesitate to communicate your needs or limits.

The holiday season doesn’t have to feel like an overwhelming challenge. By prioritizing your well-being, tapping into your creativity, and keeping a balanced perspective, you can finish the year strong, without going insane.
